Capri Scarf in the Making

Hey everyone!
Just a few updates on my crochet projects.
1) The "Graceful Shell Shawl" that I blogged about in THIS POST is done~! Before taking photos of it, I want to block it first and I will probably do it this weekend.
2) I still haven't finished my niece's sling bag (You can read about it and get the link to the pattern HERE)
3) And, just to procrastinate the sling bag project further...I started making a new scarf.

I found the lovely pattern on Red Heart website. It is called Capri Scarf.
I modified the pattern so that the width is smaller. I'm using Moda Vera Alder (Colour No.2) and it is a much bigger yarn than what the pattern calls for. So, for my first try, the width of the scarf turns out way too big. So, I reduced the base chain to 22 from 29. And it makes it a lot quicker to crochet up!

About that Moda Vera Alder yarn that I'm using..It is so soft and almost luxurious! I'm in love...
The yarn is 100% viscose derived from bamboo. I love bamboo yarns. (:
And to top it all off, I only paid $1 for each ball of yarn! It was on clearance at Spotlight and I bought 4 of them. I was so excited! Now that I think of it, I should have bought like 20 of them, don't you think? :D

Anyway, here are the photos of my Capri Scarf in the making. (:

Hope you have a great day! (:

"Graceful Shell Shawl" in Black

Hey everyone!
I know I should have spent my past few days finishing up the sling bag that I'm making for my niece.
You can check it out in THIS POST.
But I get bored working on the same project for a few days...
We all have that problem, don't we?

I came across so many beautiful shawl and scarf patterns on Red Heart website.
A few nights ago, I couldn't fall asleep, so I was browsing that website on my phone.
I fell in love with a few patterns and I know I will be making them..slowly..but definitely. (:

I started on my "Graceful Shell Shawl" (click HERE for the pdf pattern) couple of days ago and I think I'm almost done. There are 9 rows, plus edging and I'm at 7th row now..so YAY! (:

I just hope it will turn out nice and wearable. I would love to wear it to school.
I can't buy the Red Heart Soft Yarn easily here (that is what the pattern calls for), and I figure I should use up the yarns in my stash. I think the yarn I'm using is slightly smaller than what the pattern calls for. The shawl looks slightly small anyway. But I don't mind - I actually prefer it to be smaller.

Anyway, here are the photos. It doesn't look anything like the one in the pattern pdf "yet", but they say the magic is in blocking. So, fingers cross! This is my first attempt at making a shawl and I don't want to end up in disaster. :D Wish me luck!

My Chevron 7'' Tablet Sleeve

I made this tablet sleeve a couple of weeks back.
I used Big Baby yarn in pink and white.
The chevron stitch is from "The Crochet Stitch Bible" by Betty Barnden and it is called "Wide Chevrons".
The back of the sleeve is just easy repeats of double crochet.
To finish it off, I sewn 2 red buttons so that I can close the tablet case securely.

I'm working on a sling bag for my niece using granny squares. I'll share with you once it's done. (:
So, what is your latest project?

Opps, I'm 21 :D

Hey everyone!
I turned 21 yesterday :D

I had a great day with the love of my life, Mitch.
It was my first birthday spent with him.
I skyped with my family back in Singapore and it was great fun! :D

Oh, and guess what?! Mitch found me a FOUR-LEAF CLOVER!
Oh my gosh! I have been looking for one for months. Whenever I go out for a walk, I would stare at the bushes, hoping to find my lucky charm. ;)
And he found it for me on my birthday - it was perfect.

Anyhow, I'll just share some highlights of my big day with photos and end this post. (:
Beautiful flowers from Mitch

Glamorous shot of the day :P

Wearable Doily

I've got myself Interweave Crochet Summer 2012 a few days ago and it has the most beautiful patterns for Summer.

One project definitely caught my eyes. It is this beautiful St.Tropez Tunic. The pattern is pretty easy to follow - it is just making multiple of doilies and joining them together.

Of course I'll give myself a go at making that whole dress, but for now, I love making wearable jewelries for my shop, and for myself!

I made 2 full doilies using my Milford Soft 3 ply yarn.  They turned out pretty smaller than I would like, but I still adore them!

And then I made 2 half doilies and already turned one of them into necklace. I love the look of it so much!

I love doilies, whether they are vintage or newly crocheted. They are so delicate, elegant and not to mention how pretty they can be! I'm so excited to finally make a wearable doily! Now I can show my love for doilies every time I go out. (:
I think I will list them on my Etsy shop soon enough and gonna make more for myself too.

Loving Daisies

Hey everyone.
I just want to share with you the beautiful "Daisy Granny Square" pattern by Laura from Tillie Tulip.

She made this beautiful blanket for her mother-in-law and you can read all about it HERE.

To make the square, you start with this beautiful daisy, and you can find the photo tutorial in her in blog post, HERE.

And then, to turn into a square, she made another wonderful tutorial HERE.

I love the pattern so much. It is easy enough to follow and it is so gorgeous! I think I will definitely use this pattern for my future projects. I've been thinking of making a tote bag for my school out of granny squares. Now I just need to get some nice yarns. I'll keep you updated when I start. (:

Happy crocheting!

My Very First Craft Fair

Hey everyone!
Last Saturday on the 7th, I participated in a Victor Harbor Craft Market.
The Craft Market is only once a month.

I always thought my first craft fair would be in Singapore. After all, I am more familiar with the places and people there.
But Mitch thought it was a great opportunity for me to go out there and get some sales and also receive some feedback. Now that it is all over, I am so grateful he pushed me into it. He helped me with everything, from buying supplies to setting up my booth, and also watched the stall with me for most of the time.

I was so nervous, of course...I felt like I did not have enough time to prepare..I came up with million and one reasons why I should not join the craft market. But I'm so glad I did. I sold two of my products, you can check them out HERE and HERE. I get so many positive feedback from customers and also from other crafters. It was such a great feeling. I made so many new friends too. Other crafters at the fair have been participating every month and they helped me out a lot and encouraged me. I feel so silly to be so scared and nervous about it all...

I wanted to take hundreds of photos, but it was my first time and I didn't quite want to stand out more than I should.

How about you? How was your first craft fair like? I'd love it if you share with me in the comment section. (:

Redesigning...well, EVERYTHING!

My title pretty much said it all...
Hey everyone! I redesigned my blog today and I am  LOVING it! (:

I have been designing my own blog for awhile just because it allows my blog to be unique and also and mainly because I love the designing process of it.

When I first started today, I had no idea what I wanted. But I knew I needed a makeover so bad.
I looked around a few blogs for inspiration. I was even thinking of getting a web designer to design my blog but I know it would be silly of me to spend a few hundreds on my blog and also, I had no idea what I wanted.

After looking around for awhile, I found this blog "My Life - My Loves" through a Pinterest board. And I immediately fell in love with it! I love the simplicity of it. The white background and simple yet beautiful header did the trick for me.

After I've found my inspiration, it only took me like an hour to pull it off.

The next and most important step for me is to find a colour combo. I knew I wanted to use the main photo from my Etsy listing.

It took me awhile to find the colours that go with pink. I was spending time on ColourLovers, going through all the palettes that include pale pink. And then, it hit me. DUH! I've always loved how black pops in designs. Black goes with every colour and it is so easy to read on pale/white background. So, I followed my instinct and ta-da..whipped up my blog header in a flash. (:

I also did the cover photo for my Facebook Page and banner for my Etsy Shop, using the same photo and my "colour combo".

I am so happy with what I've achieved today, so I had to share with you!
It normally took me about a week to create a blog design that I love, so yep, it was quite an achievement for me. (:

Leave a link in the comment section if you designed your own blog too! I'd love to see all the beautiful blogs.

Hugs.

A Trip To Whale Centre

A few weeks ago, Mitch took me to Whale Centre at Victor Harbor.
I finally got to experience how big a whale can be and had a pleasure of meeting a cute turtle named "SOUP"! Who wants some turtle soup?... Didn't that sound quite wrong?

All the cute souvenirs. Aren't the whales so cute?

Beautiful sea creatures silver jewelries

More beautiful glass souvenirs. Couldn't help myself but take photos to share with you.

That fish was just staring into my soul...

All the beautiful corals

Meet SOUP! (:
Beautiful turtle...

Mitch next to a whale skull. It is massive!
