Gorgeous Crochet Edgings on Skirt

The best thing about having a big sister who can crochet is..well..I don't have to do it myself!
(And she does it way better and quicker anyway..)
My sister crocheted this beautiful edge for me on my oh-so-short skirt.

I absolutely love it! (:
I've been meaning to crochet the edges myself for awhile, cos I really love that skirt.
But I guess it must have "shrunk" over the years and it flew everywhere on windy day....the disaster...

 She used crochet hook from Sharp Crochet Hook for the first row and did 5 rows of beautiful shells.
Now, my skirt hangs nicely and it doesn't fly in the wind anymore, which is always good, isn't it?
I like how the weight of the yarns weigh down the soft skirt nicely.

She's crocheting edging on another skirt now (lucky me! :D) and I'll share with you when it's all done ;)

Obsessed with Bows

Hey everyone!
More bows coming your way!

I made these tiny little bow hairpins awhile back.
I managed to make a few of them in pairs. Yellow is my favorite!

They're so fun to make and I made them in a few colors. Here is a close-up.

I haven't listed them on my Etsy shop, since taking photos of them take so long, not to mention the time taken to edit them..

In fact, I'm thinking of backing off from online selling for a bit.
And even being featured on the front page of Etsy won't stop me.
Yep, this crochet necklace of mine was featured on the front page 2 days ago!

And some kind seller from Etsy sent me this screenshot which I'm very grateful for since I slept through the front page feature...

It was exciting and everything since I got about 700 views during that 2-hour feature. But I still am not sure if I would be listing more items. May be I will, but very slowly, since they take up way too much time and I have more fun crocheting/making them...

I just had that inspiration because I just recently found out about local craft fairs such as MAAD and Public Garden. And when I head back to Australia in a month time, they have plenty of craft fairs too in Adelaide. So I'm just in the mood lately to just make plenty of pretty things and just wait for the next craft fair. What do you think about it?

I'll hopefully be back with more. (:
I have test on Thursday and a few projects due really sooooon, so don't be shocked if I disappear for like awhile. (:

Crochet Bows!

Hey everyone! (:
Just popping in to share crochet bow brooches that I made today.

They're so addictive! (:
The pattern is so easy too.

I started with 22 chains, and then half double crochet into 3rd chain from the hook.
And I just used half double crochet throughout and did total of 8 rows of half double crochet.
After that I weaved in ends and simply wrapped yarns in the centre and you just made a bow!

I know the photos aren't perfect, cos I took it with my phone at night under my room's lights *gasps*

Tiny Crochet Rose Brooches

Hey there! (:

How was your weekends?

I can't believe tomorrow gonna be Monday and I've got classes from 10 till 6....yikes!

But, I'm so glad I did some crocheting over the weekends and yes, I think I did do quite a lot of studying for my uni. I mean, I didn't stay up till 3 am studying like most do, but I don't want to spend my days like that. But I'm still pretty proud with what I've done so far.

Anyway, I don't think you want to hear me talk about boring things like school *winks*, so here is the fun part! :D

Crocheted Roses!

I love the colors! (: I used embroidery threads for all of them. The threads are made of mercerized cotton, which make them a little bit shiny, like silk. 

I told you they are tiny! (: Well, the roses are about 3.5 cm in diameter and I think it is a perfect size to wear it on blouses.

I used 0.95 mm crochet hook to make them. If you don't know how tiny the hook is, here is the pic for you.

The tip is pretty small, and of course, sharp, but it makes pretty roses, so I put up with it. :D

I enjoy making the roses a lot! But making the tiny leaves and sewing on the brooch pins on the back is, well...not so fun..

For the leaves, they are 1.5 to 2 cm in length and I have to weave in 2 loose ends. And weaving in ends is really painstaking, especially for small crochet things..If you have little threads coming out, it looks so untidy and you have to hide them neatly.

And sewing the brooch pin on the back means poking a small needle through pretty tightly crocheted roses. So, the needle won't go through easily and then, well..I've broken a few needles already..hehehe..In fact, I've gone through half a pack of 16 needles. But I might have lost some along the way, so you really should be looking where you sit if you were ever in my room..

It was still tons of fun making them thou! And I know it's worth it after seeing them all come together on my brooch pin cards..

Flower, Doily and Laces

Hey everyone! How's it going?
I hope you're having a great start to your new year.
I've got these beautiful flowers from Mitch on new year day and they're still pretty fresh.
Aren't they just so lovely?

I must confess I do loveee taking photos, and that's why my posts have way too many photos than necessary. Hope you don't mind.

I just sort of finished my first project of 2013. At least the crochet part of it.
It is a pencil case/make-up pouch. When finished, it'll measure 21cm x 10cm.
The pouch base is just simple single crochet. Took me a decent while to finish it since the yarn was pretty small and I used 3mm hook.

As you can probably tell, I haven't sewed the sides together or weave in the yarn ends.
That's because I'll be lining it and sewing a zipper. I haven't got the zipper or matching lining and probably awhile till I go shopping for them. Oh well, it can wait. :D

I used the doily from my red clutch bag. I skipped the last round thou.
I just adore that doily pattern!

I'll share with you the final outcome after I finish the fabric lining and final work.

Anyway, yesterday, I went to watch The Hobbit with Mitch and his friend.
And well, during one scene at Bilbo's house, he said, "No, that's not a dishcloth! It's a doily. Yes yes, it's crocheted.'' It cracked me up! You have to see it for yourself.

Hearts Hearts Hearts

Hey everyone!

Happy new year! (:

I've got baby yarns from some nice lady awhile back in pink and white.

So I thought I'll use them to make some whimsy hearts.

I found this Crochet Lacy Heart Pattern from Crochet Memories.

It is really quick to crochet, so I made 5 of them.

I thought of turning it into a heart garland, but haven't really made up my mind on it.

I found some cushion stuffing at Mitch's house, so I made a cute heart cushion using it.
I used the same heart pattern, of course. I just simply sewn the edges of 2 pink hearts together, added some stuffing and lastly crocheted the lace edgings in white.

Isn't it sooo cute?

Crochet Doily Red Clutch Bag

The other day, I was just thinking of projects for Valentine's Day.
I know I know...It's still like a little over a month away and it's probably still early to think about it. But after Christmas, that's the next big day that I get excited over.
And I thought I could make a cute little clutch bag that I could use on a date.

So, I went through my Crochet Pin Board as usual to find a nice clutch pattern.
And I found this oh-so-lovely Floral Pouch Pattern by Pierrot Yarns.
I must warn you that the pattern is only in diagrams. There are some helpful written notes, but yep, you have to know how to read the diagrams pretty well...It was kind of painful trying to decipher it, especially the Motif pattern, but I think it was all worth it in the end.
If you need help reading the pattern diagrams, just leave a comment and I'll try and help you.(:

Of course, I used red and white since I was thinking of V'day.
I had to use double strand of white yarn, since the yarn wasn't thick enough.

Both the doily and bag are done. I love this doily pattern so much. I think it would be perfect for coasters too.

Then, I sewn the doily to the back of my bag. I wasn't sure if it would turn out neat. I did my best to align it properly and pinned it in place with sewing pins before sewing.

I think it turned out pretty neat, don't you think? :D That's the back of my clutch.

Colourful Aster Bookmarks

I made these little bookmarks in several colours. 

The pattern is an Aster pattern from 100 Flowers to Knit and Crochet.
The pattern is pretty easy to follow and they crochet up so fast! Changing colours isn't too hard too and I can easily tug in the loose ends while crocheting too, which makes them extra fun to crochet!

I think they look like they have been pressed between book pages and that's why I think they make such great bookmarks.

I gave the pink one to my niece; she loves it. (:

Feeling the Christmas Rush

I've been so busy lately.
My last exam paper is 2 days away and I've been so busy trying to stuff all the information into my head..
And I've got more than usual orders on my Etsy shop too since Christmas is coming up.
I've been enjoying making rose bookmarks and I am aiming to get one done everyday, no matter how crazy life gets.
While I was busy doing packaging and all that for my shop items, I remembered to take photos to share too! Here they are (:

My Yellow "Chrysanthemum" Beret

Have you ever seen a close-up photo of a chrysanthemum flower?

It's a beauty, isn't it?

This yellow beret is inspired by the pattern of the chrysanthemum petals.

I wonder if you can see it. (:

As I have mentioned in my Neon Pink Beret post, I didn't follow any pattern for this beret as well.

Sadly, I have to stop making berets for now. I've got an order for 12 crochet rose brooches, and I'm making them whenever I can. Only 3 more to go now! 

This is the second last week of school before final exams, so I don't even have Monday blues. Cos that means holiday is coming up and that means I'll be in Aussie with my fiancé in a month time! I hardly can't wait! Oh yes, that also means I should be studying for finals, but we shall just ignore that part for now, okay?

Crocheting Beret - Neon Pink

My little niece asked me, ''TT, are you going to Paris?" cos I have been crocheting berets and I can't exactly wear it in hot humid Singapore... 

Well, of course, I'm not going to Paris..I wish.. but I can't wait till Aussie winter! (:
I made my first beret last May and really loved it. But, when I got back from Aussie, I gave it to my niece and she loves it!

I crocheted 2 berets last week and it was sooo much fun!
I didn't follow any particular pattern at all. It is really easy to crochet one without following pattern once you get a hang of it.
May be I'll do a tutorial, but I'm still in the testing mode.
It is just a turn-off for me sometimes to have to follow patterns because of the gauging..it is also not easy to get specific yarns that pattern calls for in Singapore..

For the neon pink beret, the six-pointed star pattern is from "ribbon crop-top" pattern in Crochet Today April-May 2007 magazine. I then joined up the pointed parts of the star with chains and increase the it using double crochets and more chains. I added the rim, which is about an inch thick, using single crochets.

Well, enough waiting ;) Here are the pics!

I was thinking of  making a few as Christmas presents. I'm not sure they are good enough or not...
