Crochet Rose Brooches

I love making these beautiful rose brooches.

Each embroidery thread from Anchor or DMC makes exactly one rose.

So it is so convenient to make in so many colors and I don't waste the yarn too.

About a week ago, a lady from Canada asked me if I can make 15 roses for the nurses who took care of her grandpa before he passed away.

It was such an honor and I made them in 15 different colors.

I really hope they'll like them.

They were such a pain to make them. But I kept trying new patterns and I think I've found an easy way to make them.

Crochet Bows!

Hey everyone! (:
Just popping in to share crochet bow brooches that I made today.

They're so addictive! (:
The pattern is so easy too.

I started with 22 chains, and then half double crochet into 3rd chain from the hook.
And I just used half double crochet throughout and did total of 8 rows of half double crochet.
After that I weaved in ends and simply wrapped yarns in the centre and you just made a bow!

I know the photos aren't perfect, cos I took it with my phone at night under my room's lights *gasps*

Flower, Doily and Laces

Hey everyone! How's it going?
I hope you're having a great start to your new year.
I've got these beautiful flowers from Mitch on new year day and they're still pretty fresh.
Aren't they just so lovely?

I must confess I do loveee taking photos, and that's why my posts have way too many photos than necessary. Hope you don't mind.

I just sort of finished my first project of 2013. At least the crochet part of it.
It is a pencil case/make-up pouch. When finished, it'll measure 21cm x 10cm.
The pouch base is just simple single crochet. Took me a decent while to finish it since the yarn was pretty small and I used 3mm hook.

As you can probably tell, I haven't sewed the sides together or weave in the yarn ends.
That's because I'll be lining it and sewing a zipper. I haven't got the zipper or matching lining and probably awhile till I go shopping for them. Oh well, it can wait. :D

I used the doily from my red clutch bag. I skipped the last round thou.
I just adore that doily pattern!

I'll share with you the final outcome after I finish the fabric lining and final work.

Anyway, yesterday, I went to watch The Hobbit with Mitch and his friend.
And well, during one scene at Bilbo's house, he said, "No, that's not a dishcloth! It's a doily. Yes yes, it's crocheted.'' It cracked me up! You have to see it for yourself.

Hearts Hearts Hearts

Hey everyone!

Happy new year! (:

I've got baby yarns from some nice lady awhile back in pink and white.

So I thought I'll use them to make some whimsy hearts.

I found this Crochet Lacy Heart Pattern from Crochet Memories.

It is really quick to crochet, so I made 5 of them.

I thought of turning it into a heart garland, but haven't really made up my mind on it.

I found some cushion stuffing at Mitch's house, so I made a cute heart cushion using it.
I used the same heart pattern, of course. I just simply sewn the edges of 2 pink hearts together, added some stuffing and lastly crocheted the lace edgings in white.

Isn't it sooo cute?

Crochet Doily Red Clutch Bag

The other day, I was just thinking of projects for Valentine's Day.
I know I know...It's still like a little over a month away and it's probably still early to think about it. But after Christmas, that's the next big day that I get excited over.
And I thought I could make a cute little clutch bag that I could use on a date.

So, I went through my Crochet Pin Board as usual to find a nice clutch pattern.
And I found this oh-so-lovely Floral Pouch Pattern by Pierrot Yarns.
I must warn you that the pattern is only in diagrams. There are some helpful written notes, but yep, you have to know how to read the diagrams pretty well...It was kind of painful trying to decipher it, especially the Motif pattern, but I think it was all worth it in the end.

Of course, I used red and white since I was thinking of V'day.
I had to use double strand of white yarn, since the yarn wasn't thick enough.

Both the doily and bag are done. I love this doily pattern so much. I think it would be perfect for coasters too.

Then, I sewn the doily to the back of my bag. I wasn't sure if it would turn out neat. I did my best to align it properly and pinned it in place with sewing pins before sewing.

I think it turned out pretty neat, don't you think? :D That's the back of my clutch.

My Bright Yellow Crochet Cowl

Hey everyone!
How was your Christmas? Mine was great (:.
My family don't celebrate Christmas, but Mitch's family obviously does and I had a great time.
We have so much left-over food and I'm still having them today...

I was planning to share this cowl with you for awhile.
I used the pattern from MyPicot Club. You can find the pattern HERE.
It is such a beautiful lace pattern! I LOVE IT.
The pattern is not for crocheting in rounds, but I changed it up a bit and managed to crochet this cowl in rounds instead.

I don't know if I'd look weird to wear it to my college classes back in hot and humid Singapore, but I'm loving the look over my blouses. I might just be bold and wear it. :D 

And that's me and my photographer. It's always great to have him taking photos for me although he insisted that I wear my glasses...

This is my first crochet cowl and I'm loving it! Hope you like it too. (:
I'm on my second one right now and it is in royal blue. And I'm using daisy crochet stitch.

The yarn I used for this project is 100% acrylic and Mitch got it for me cos they were on offer and it was only $2 for 100 grams! It's pretty cheap yarn, but it isn't itchy or anything. It is really warm and sooo soft.
I did a bit of googling and you can purchase the yarn I used on this website, Alacraft.

I guess card-making bug has bitten me again...

And it is all this Tuesday Trigger form Moxie Fab World's fault! (:

This is my second card for this Tuesday Trigger and if you missed my first card, here it is.
More pics of my card.

For this card, I crocheted the little frame using a blush pink yarn. It took me awhile to get the size right. But I really like the result (: Scroll down for the crochet pattern.

I used the same pattern paper that I used for my first card.
My sweet fiancé came up with the sentiment. I think it's really cute and match my card perfectly! :D
I used alphabet stamps from studio g and I mentioned about them in my previous post.

I try to keep things clean and simple thou; it's my favourite style.

Here is the easy pattern for the frame I used on my card:

ch = chains, dc = double crochet, ss = slip stitch

Round 1: Make ch ring that is big enough to hold your picture. I made 50 ch, and ss to the first ch.
Round 2: 3 ch (count as 1 dc), follow by dc into the ring.
              Number of dc = multiple of 4. I did 14 x 4 = 56 dc
Round 3: ch 6, skip 3 stitches, ss into the 4th stitch. Repeat around the round to make the 6-ch loops.
              For last loop, 6 ch and ss into the first ch of the first loop.

My Yellow "Chrysanthemum" Beret

Have you ever seen a close-up photo of a chrysanthemum flower?

It's a beauty, isn't it?

This yellow beret is inspired by the pattern of the chrysanthemum petals.

I wonder if you can see it. (:

Sadly, I have to stop making berets for now. I've got an order for 12 crochet rose brooches, and I'm making them whenever I can. Only 3 more to go now! 

This is the second last week of school before final exams, so I don't even have Monday blues. Cos that means holiday is coming up and that means I'll be in Aussie with my fiancé in a month time! I hardly can't wait! Oh yes, that also means I should be studying for finals, but we shall just ignore that part for now, okay?

Bobwilson123's Crochet Headband Challenge!

Hey everyone! Happy weekends! (:
I've been a big fan of bobwilson123's crochet tutorials on YouTube.
HERE is her YouTube Channel, and HERE is her blog.
She mentions about the ''headband challenge'' in this blog post.
This is my entry.

 

 

It only took me about 2 hours to make it.

Below is her YouTube video tutorial for this headband.

One of the criteria is to "decorate" it..
Instead of doing normal double crochet, I did ribbings, like she suggested in the video, by crocheting only in the front loops/back loops.
And used 2 shades of grey, instead of a monotone.
I didn't want to add flowers or anything, since the bow is already very beautiful.
I hope I have "decorated'' it enough.
If I added flowers or other things, I don't think I would wear it out.
(Edited to add: I added the yellow flower brooch in the second photo to qualify for the challenge, as suggested by the host, Clare. (: )

Crochet Bag and Crochet Card

One of my close friend in Uni had her birthday last Friday.
So I had the pleasure of gifting my crochet stuffs to her! (:

I also went through my handmade cards for her and I found this card that I made probably a year ago.
I love those little crochet flowers! It is one of my favourite card that I made. I really hope she likes it too. (:

My new obsession...

Hello hello (:
You know..I haven't been crocheting for the whole week!
I was obsessed with crocheting before then and I thought I'd better stop it cos it wasn't enjoyable anymore...
I can't afford to neglect my school work and I tend to do it when I get obsessed with something...in this case, it is crocheting..

Anyway, I thought I'll take a break from crocheting and may be read books during my free time.
Mitch has been bugging me to read Harry Potter for probably 1 year, may be more... I felt like, it is such a long series and I'll take forever to finish it. I'm not a fast reader and I'm not a book-worm like him (although that's one of the many things I love about him!) :P
I finally gave in and started reading a week ago and I'm on the 5th book now! *gasps!*
I was such a nice girl going to bed at before 11pm but now I've been staying up till about 2am, reading..thinking to myself, just one more chapter, just one more chapter....

I"m not complaining thou :D I'm totally in love with the Harry Potter books now and guess what? I just booked tickles for Harry Potter Exhibition at Marina Bay Sand! It seems like Mitch is more excited about going to the Exhibition than seeing me :P But I know that can't be true!

I finished my first crochet "project" in a long while this morning..If you can even call it a "project".
It was only a small coaster.

I used a really small hook of 0.95 mm and Milford Soft yarn in Christmas Green.
My coaster measures about 11cm (4 inches) in diameter. It is a perfect size for me.

I love having some crocheted things. They make great gifts!
Christmas is only a few months away too and about time I start crocheting some things for Christmas gifting too. I think I'll make 3 more of the coasters and it will make a great coaster set. (:

First Time Lining a Bag :D

Hey everyone!
So, could you guess what I was making in yesterday's post?

I was making a pencil case!
And I decided to line it with some nice water-proof fabric that my mum had been hoarding. :D
This is my first time lining a crochet bag, and I'm glad it turned out good.
